The First Am barricadement, which guarantees Americans the license of speech, has been public debated for years. An example of the First Amendment in debate is in the geek of Hazelwood School District v. Kuhlmeier. In this case the people (Respondents) First Amendment rights were violated by the capitulum of their school. Their rights were violated because the principal deleted two articles from the school newspaper which dealt with bookman pregnancy and the issue of divorce and how it impacted the school community. He did this in direct violation to an agreement signed by the school officials, which assured the students their First Amendment rights (White, et al, 6-7). However, the principal had certain reasons for deleting the articles. He believed the issue of sexual activity was non appropriate for junior students and also he believed the girls referred to in the pregnancy article would not be protected, even though other names were used. In the divorce article he believed that the parents menti unityd in the article should piss some say in the opinions expressed. Furthermore, he deleted the pages containing the articles themselves, because of time constraints. He believed that the paper would not come out before the end of the year if it was delayed, so he took out the two pages (Unknown, 1).
This case relates to the First Amendment in a few ways. In one way it relates to another case which deals freedom of chemical formula (Tinker v. stilbestrol Moines School District) In this case it is said that students do not shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate (White, et al, 9). Also this is an issue of freedom of speech. This is because the articles written were the written opinions and expressions of the students in the journalism class.
