Araby is a short interlacing apologue by James Joyce that I believe is a reflection of his own
life as a hop on son growing up in Dublin. The setting in the short story Araby strengthens the
theme and characters by using similes of chichi and blackenedness. A narrator uses conceal and
dark strokes to show us the reality of his life living in a relentless street which he mention in the
story as blind end and quite street (596). He uses dark and gloomy scene to hold reviewers
attention, and then suddenly changes to glinting scene when discussing Mangans sister, his
be get alongd. Though a boy in the story cannot buy the gift from the bazaar for his love, the whole
story tell us how one can love his beloved, and how he eternally tries to impress her.
Araby employs many themes, but the two nearly important themes are escape and
envisage. The narrator always wants to escape from the gloominess of North Richmond Street
where he used to live, and wants to lose in the world of fantasy. In this story, a young boy
falls in love with his workfellow citizen Mangans sister, and he spends his time watching her from
his house and sentiment about her. Mangans sister, the narrators love, is one the
near important minor character in this story.
Though the reader learns almost nothing about the
narrators beloved, she gives jumpstart to all of the actions in the story.
The narrator as a boy in the story always hides in the darkness, and try to undercover agent her brown
figure (596) with the thinking that she is the light in his fantasy who can pull him out of
darkness. There is one scene in the story which tells us that the boy incredibly loves Mangans
sister. For example, on one rainy evening, the boy kept himself past from others in the back
drawing-room in his house, and he started falling in the thoughts of his love. He murmured some
