The characteristics and actions of Beowulf correspond to those of what a wedge heel is considered
in our society. In the poem, Beowulf, the main character, Beowulf, is a consummate example of
a hero. Beowulf shows many characteristics of a hero throughout the poem. Beowulf is a
strong soldier; as he states to the other soldiers, My Sword? Oh I left it in the sun somewhere.
I need no sword. He is proclaiming to the manpower that he is strong, brave, and courageous enough
to fight without a sword. He demonstrates his bravery and strength when he fights Grendel and
defeats him without any swords or armor. When the poet states The captain of evil
discovered himself in a handgrip harder than anything he had ever encountered in any man on
the construction of the earth. Every bone in his body quailed and recoiled, but he could not escape. He
was desperate to flee to his den and mask with the devils litter, for in all his days he had never
been clamped or cornered like this, he is expressing how strong Beowulf is as he fights against
him.
Beowulf is a noble warrior; Beowulf is identified as a hero by the Danish coast-guard just by
looking at him as he comes ashore.
Nor have I seen a mightier man-at-arms on this earth than
the one standing here: unless I am mistaken, he is truly noble. This is no mere hanger-on in a
heros armour. (244-251). Hes not a fraud or a hanger-on; hes the genuinely thing, hes a real
hero, and he seems to have authenticity emitting off of him.
Beowulf is portrayed as a man with much perseverance; Beowulf fights for what he believes
in. Hygelacs kinsman unploughed thinking about his name and fame: he never unconnected heart. (1529-
1530) Beowulf was strong in his actions, but what kept him going was the imagination of his
reputation. Although Beowulf is looked up to and honored, he is very egotistical in his slipway of
