Deborah Tannens, Marked Women (1993) claims that all women are marked lingually and by the actions they take and there may not be any way for women to avoid this circumstance. Deborah shows the changes that must occur in language in order to make speech more feminine. I think Deborah Tannens intention is to enlighten lecturers to the differences between men and women using language and show how it translates into the visual world. Tannens work appeals to both sexes in an attempt to connect with the reader through familiarity.
It was interesting to read this particular selection because I grant with and identified with most of what Deborah Tannen says. Women raiset assemble out a rebound without telling stories slightly themselves (20) says Tannen as she refers to the decision women face when selecting any Mrs.,Ms. Or Miss. This for me is often a debate. There is no womanhoods hairstyle that can be called standard, that says nothing about her (Tannen 17). As a woman I do feel that every decisions made concerning natural daily activities such as nabting dressed belong complicated when I contemplate its perception. I also agree that though men can also be marked there is opportunity for this perception to be avoided by do standard or safe choices when considering appearance. However, women do not have any safe or standard options and not be marked by terms such as muted or conservative. Even choices in our footwear must either be considered sexy, stylish or comfortable.
