A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was sworn in as the 11th President of India by Chief Justice of India on July 25, 2002 in the Central antechamber of Parliament. He has replaced K. R. Narayanan, who completed a five-year term.
Born Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam on Oct. 15, 1931, he began his early education at a village school in the southern port of Rameshwaram. He later certain a degree in aeronautical engineering.
