The Battle of Gettysburg was one of the bloodiest combats of the Civil War. Thousands of Americans died in exactly a few of these short days. It was a key battle for both sides in the Civil War. On July 1, 1863 is when the battle began. It lasted for 3 days.
There were two main customarys of the two armies. The Union air force officer was known as George G. Meade, or by his nickname oldish snapping turtle. And Gen. Robert E. lee was the helper commander. Meade was a brigade general back in the early years of the civil struggle. During the Battle of Glendale he was wounded severely by a gunshot wound fired by a confederate soldier. Meade do it out okay and because of his heroic efforts he was promoted to the General of the Potomac Army. When he was promoted he had just three days to get his forces situated and ready for the battle that was to begin in Gettysburg. Meade had a very bad temper and this is why people called him emeritus Snapping Turtle
Gen. Robert E. Lee was born and raised in Virginia. When Virginia stated it was rebelling against the fall in States Lee was against this act. He thought that all of the United States should be joined and be together as a unity instead of a split nation.
