When he asks his best friend to lend him some funds to pay off his debts, he refuses. He will, however, help Conor with his cash problems if he agrees to private instructor a corporately sponsored youth baseball team. Conor doesnt know that he is about to be thrown into the inner-city of Chicago, where he has to try to mold a team of underprivileged, yet street-smart kids. Connor ONeill initially was unwilling to coach these kids. He only took the agency for the m oney. He did non want to give up his course as a ticket scalper and sports gambler at all. So basically he was forced to serve as the coach for the Kekambas little league team as a guidance to pay back his gambling debts. The next things he knows he is standing before 8 young boys from the projects. Even though his relationship with them was shaky at the start, ONeill slowly gained the pry and trust of the boys. One excellent thing I love about the movie, the writers do a good job at building a touching relationship between the boys and ONeill.

It goes on to Conor decision redemption through coaching the kids and the kids finding inspiration in their troubled coach. Not even fish fillet after his plan goes through and hes not longer in debt. The movie goes as far as bringing him directly into their lives; letting him discover the horrors that many kids from this rural area are forced to live. For instance he tours the residence of one of his ballplayers, Jefferson played by Michael B. Jordan. ONeill is confused as to wherefore every apartment he walks by everyone was sitting on the floor instead of chairs in the one-room homes.
