General phenomena of modernness
Oxford dictionary of advanced learners defines ‘ in advance(p)ism’ as ‘modern ideas or methods in contrast to traditional ones, especially in art and religion.’ Penguin dictionary of literary terminals defines ‘ contemporaneity’ as ‘breaking away from established rules, traditions, and conventions, fresh ways of flavour at man’s position and function in the universe and in some cases experiments in form and style. The term pertains to all the creative arts, especially poetry, fiction, drama, painting, music and architecture.’ Thus, to define modernism in fixed parameters is next to impossible.



But, combining its various aspects interpreted from different definitions given different peoples at different times, we mess have a general understanding of this term and this effect both. It is a term used in the western hemisphere to describe not only a literary era in the first decades of the twentieth century but besides to refer to a more general idea. Modern mean a contrast to traditional methods and established rules and regulations, particularly in art, architecture and religion. However, the term itself has been more often used in a retrospective sense since the 1960’s than in ordinary speech at the time. The roots of the change in the sweet lay tangled deep in the modern experience. II. Features of Modernism Many features of modernist literature can be found in earlier works.
